We are so close to the end of our Australian Research Council Discovery Grant (VietSPeech). We have set aside another week to work on finishing 8 journal articles and putting our VietSpeech workbook online so that people can access it. We are excited about another busy week.
This week our VietSpeech team are on a writing retreat to write and finalise papers for our ARC Discovery Grant that finishes at the end of this year. It is going to be a productive week.
We had planned to be together at a beach - but with the inconsistency of COVID rules and regulations - we have ended up working at home with beach Zoom backgrounds! Travel restrictions did end up lifting on 1 November (our first day of writing) so we actually could have been together.

My students and colleagues frequently use the pomodoro writing technique https://pomofocus.io/ . Today was the first time I had used it - and it was great. Thanks Belinda and Tamara Cumming for being writing buddies. I was so surprised at how long writing takes!
A workshop for HDR candidates studying in English as an additional language. Two PhD candidates who have completed their thesis will discuss their language journey, and answer your questions about writing a PhD in English. What did they learn about writing in English? What strategies and resources did they use to help them learn and communicate in English? How did they manage their literature review? What new language demands does thesis writing place on students? What role did their supervisors play in relation to English language?

Sharynne McLeod is Professor of Speech and Language Acquisition at Charles Sturt University. She was awarded an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship (2010-2014) titled Speaking my Languages: International Speech Acquisition in Australia. This blog was designed to archive what she learned and accomplished during the Fellowship. For details about the Fellowship see the original post. The Multilingual Children's Speech website was created as part of this Fellowship. It contains resources for over 60 languages.
