Authorship contributions

Naming authors on research papers and presentations ensures that appropriate people get credit and are accountable for the reported research. 

The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommendations  comprise four criteria, all of which are required to claim authorship:

1. "Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
2. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
3. Final approval of the version to be published; AND
4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved..." (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors)

The CRediT Taxonomy  provides the opportunity to describe each person’s specific contribution to the scholarly output. The 14 roles listed in the CRediT Taxonomy are: "Conceptualization, Data curation, Formal analysis, Funding acquisition, Investigation, Methodology, Project administration, Resources, Software, Supervision, Validation, Visualization, Writing – original draft, Writing – review & editing" https://credit.niso.org/

Author meetings - The Oxford Handbook of Speech Development in Languages of the World

The Oxford Handbook of Speech Development in Languages of the World will contain approximately 80 chapters written by 206 authors about 50 languages. Ensuring that all aspects of the project is consistent is a huge task - but made easy by the calibre and care of the excellent authors (researchers, linguists, speech-language pathologists, etc.). We are now up to the point of creating the maps, audio files, conference and online presentations of the chapters - so I decided to host author meetings. They are being held three times to suit as many time zones as possible. What a joy to see so many of my excellent colleagues to discuss this important project.

The [Oxford] Handbook of Speech Development in Languages of the World

I have been thrilled with the enthusiasm from colleagues from across the world who will be writing chapters in The [Oxford] Handbook of Speech Development in Languages of the World. At this stage, we should be profiling languages and dialects in over 80 chapters! I am currently finalising the chapter template and author guidelines with Oxford University Press. Today I met with authors to discuss chapters on Korean and Greek Speech Development. Talking with colleagues from across the world is the next best thing to travelling around the world.
