New 2-year term on Academic Senate

I have just commenced my next 2-year term as a Professors' Forum representative on the Charles Sturt University Academic Senate. This will be my third term. It is an important committee that meets 5 times a year face-to-face. This week we met in Wagga Wagga.

I am an elected member of Charles Sturt University's Academic Senate, representing the Professors' Forum. We meet face-to-face five times each year. Yesterday was our last meeting for the year in Wagga Wagga where we said farewell to Professor Jo-Anne Reid as the Presiding Officer of Academic Senate.

Academic Senate in Albury

I attended Charles Sturt University's Academic Senate today. I am an elected representative of the Professorial Forum. Today also was international women's day, and the contribution of women at CSU was acknowledged. In fact, CSU is leading the sector in terms of the number of women in management roles. CSU has 64% of female governors (9/14) (p. 26 of WomenCount: Australian Universities 2016).

Re-election to CSU's Academic Senate

I have been reappointed onto Charles Sturt University's Academic Senate for a 2-year term as an elected member representing the professoriate. There are 5 face-to-face meetings per year on different campuses of the university. The new Senate met today in Bathurst to discuss a wide range of issues from the 243 page agenda, finishing with an informative discussion about academic quality. It is an honour to serve on this important committee.

Visiting Wagga Wagga

This week I visited Wagga Wagga to attend Academic Senate. While there, I also visited Kim Woodland and Jo Masters at RIPPLE. Philip Paschke from RIPPLE worked with me to update the Multilingual Children's Speech website. We have almost finalised two more pages. Finally, it was CSU's Foundation Day celebrations - so there were lots of red balloons, red food and red clothing to celebrate (see CSU's video here).

Meetings in Wagga Wagga

This week I have traveled to Wagga Wagga to attend Academic Senate as well as a Senior Women's Forum dinner. These events are collegial and impress on me of the caliber of CSU leadership.

Visiting Albury

The Albury/Thurgoona campus of CSU is 5-6 hours south of the Bathurst campus. This week I visited the Albury campus to attend my first Academic Senate meeting as a Professorial Forum representative. The Senate meeting covered issues of teaching, research, staffing, students, and other aspects of university business. I was impressed by the alignment of CSU's motto "For the public good" and the discussions of the Senate that supported staff, students, and our communities.

While in Albury I visited Sarah Verdon in her new office. She has commenced a 3-year position as a research fellow with the Research Institute of Professional Practice, Learning and Education.
I also visited the speech pathology team.

Professorial representative on Academic Senate

I have just been appointed one of the professorial representatives on Academic Senate for Charles Sturt University until mid 2016. The Academic Senate is the principal academic body of the University "advising the Council and Vice-Chancellor on all matters relating to teaching, scholarship and research and ensuring the high quality of teaching and learning and research within the University by developing and implementing appropriate policies". More information is here.
